The Birth Center

Your baby. Your choice.

At North Suburban, we know every step of your birth experience is unique to you. That is why The Birth Center at North Suburban was designed with you and your baby in mind.

Throughout your time at our childbirth center, we will be asking you what you want and how we can help. What's important to you and your baby is important to us. The Women's Center team will do everything they can to provide a personalized experience that meets your needs.

Additionally, if you choose to use our Reunion OB/GYN for prenatal care, you may deliver at North Suburban.

When the big day comes, expectant moms will go to North Suburban's Labor, Delivery and Recovery Unit on the third floor to be assigned a room and evaluated for labor. Moms arriving for scheduled inductions, external versions or cesarean births should check-in at the main admissions desk.

North Suburban understands that every expectant mother’s wishes are different when it comes to giving birth to a child. That is why our birth center team in north Denver consists of certified nurse midwives, in addition to OB/GYNs, nurse practitioners, anesthesiologists, neonatologists and perinatal specialists.

Our certified nurse midwives are affiliated with OB/GYNs. If unexpected complications occur during pregnancy or delivery, we have OB/GYNs available to immediately assist your midwife with your care.

One-on-one care for mom and baby

Each expectant mom is assigned her own nurse. This nurse is highly experienced in childbirth and will help you throughout your delivery. Additionally, your baby is assigned his or her own neonatal nurse practitioner as soon as your baby is born.

Childbirth pain management

North Suburban offers 24-hour anesthesia service to provide quick relief from the discomfort of labor. For moms choosing a non-medicated birth, we have squat bars, rocking chairs and birthing balls.

Family-centered care

We accommodate all levels of involvement for families. Our goal is to help make your child's birth as memorable as possible while making sure that mom and baby are always safe. Families are allowed to be in attendance during the childbirth process, and we have a comfortable waiting room nearby for additional visitors.

Neonatal intensive care unit

North Suburban offers a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where we care for ill or premature newborns. If your baby needs specialized care after birth, you can be confident he or she is in expert hands.

If a higher level of care is necessary, we will quickly transfer your baby to the Level IV NICU at our sister hospital, Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.

Postpartum care

Our staff provides customized care that helps you get to know your little one until it is time for you to leave our hospital for home.

To help support family bonding and increase breastfeeding success, our team promotes rooming-in. We encourage you to keep your baby with you during those important first days, but our nurses are available to care for your baby when you need a break.

Breastfeeding support

We understand the importance of helping new mothers successfully breastfeed their babies. During your hospital stay, a registered nurse (RN) who is an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) will visit you after your baby's birth to assist you with breastfeeding and nursing positions.

Once you take your baby home, call us at (303) 457-7740, and we will provide support over the phone.

We also offer a Healthy Beginnings support group where our lactation consultant weighs your baby before and after feeding to determine how much breastmilk he or she consumes. Please call (303) 457-7740 to check days and times.

Car seat safety

Colorado law states that parents must have a car seat installed before transporting the baby home from the hospital. We offer free car seat safety checks for all babies born at our hospital.
