Our cardiac catheterization lab (cath lab) uses catheter-based procedures to diagnose and/or treat cardiovascular conditions. A thin catheter is inserted into an artery, usually in the groin or the arm, and guided through the blood vessels toward the heart. This procedure provides your heart doctor with a clear view of your blood vessels, to diagnose a condition or to provide interventional treatment.
Cardiac electrophysiology studies evaluate the heart’s electrical system to determine if a heart arrhythmia (irregular heart rhythm) is present. If an arrhythmia is present, the study indicates where in the heart the arrhythmia occurs, so the electrophysiologist can suggest the proper treatment.
