As a board-certified, fellowship-trained and internationally acclaimed spine surgeon, Dr. Michael Janssen, was among the first surgeons in the nation to perform and perfect the total disc replacement (TDR). He participated in the initial clinical studies and has performed more than 1,000+ TDR surgeries since the FDA approved the ProDisc in 2006. Additionally, he has trained more than 150 spine surgeons worldwide in TDR surgery. Having founded the Center for Spinal Disorders (now the Center for Spine and Orthopedics) in Thornton, CO, Dr. Janssen has participated in 13 clinical research studies, including 7 as the principal investigator toward pushing the envelope of improving patient outcomes. He is currently the principal investigator for the Simplify Disc Trial (one and two levels). As an industry expert, Dr. Janssen has also published 58 research papers in a wide range of prestigious scientific journals and lectured at more than 200 domestic and international conferences. In 2015, he was awarded the Inaugural German Ochoa Traveling Fellowship Award by AOSpine. Dr. Janssen specializes in total disc replacement in the cervical and lumbar spine, degenerative disc surgery, disc arthroplasty, laminectomy, microdisectomy and minimally invasive spine surgery, among other procedures. His training includes two spine fellowships, one at the Lakewood Orthopedic Clinic and another at the Klinik for Orthopedic Chirurgie in St. Gallen, SwitzerlandDr Janssen has been managing and caring for patients with spine conditions at NSMC for more than 25 years.
