North Suburban Medical Center Celebrates the Start of New ICU Unit with Groundbreaking Ceremony
THORNTON, COLORADO – North Suburban Medical Center celebrated the start of its new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a Groundbreaking Ceremony on the hospital campus on Thursday, March 16th. The new 12-bed ICU is a part of a $17 million investment made by North Suburban’s parent company, HealthONE, and will expand the hospital’s ICU capacity from 16 ICU beds up to 28 beds. Additional features of the unit will include state-of-the-art equipment and rooms designed around patient comfort, recovery and safety.
Construction of the ICU, which will be hosted in a brand-new first story floor on the northeast side of the hospital directly next to the Emergency Department, is scheduled to start in Q2 of 2017 and will be complete by mid-year 2018. The project is designed so this first floor construction is the start to what will eventually become an additional patient tower, allowing for an additional four floors to be built up to support future growth and expansion for North Suburban.
North Suburban President and CEO Jennifer Alderfer spoke at the ceremony, saying: “We are thrilled for this opportunity to better meet the needs of our community through this new development. The new space will enable our teams to continue to serve our mission of ‘Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.’” The new ICU unit is being completed in partnership with other growth activities, including the complete renovation of The Birth Center at North Suburban, the hospital’s third floor labor and delivery unit. It also aligns well with other activities that complement ICU care at North Suburban, such as the hospital’s neurosurgery program and advanced capabilities in trauma care.
The new ICU project has included and will continue to include a significant investment of North Suburban leadership, staff and resources, and the entire team looks forward to the ability to continue to provide an excellent patient experience to more individuals in need of critical care through the new ICU.
