Removing Uterine Fibroids with da Vinci® Robotic Myomectomy
Three out of four women develop uterine fibroids during their lives. Often, uterine fibroids cause no symptoms and do not require treatment. However, some women have heavy bleeding, pressure or pain, difficulty urinating, constipation and/or backache or leg pains. If your fibroid symptoms are serious and cannot be controlled with medication or other treatments, your doctor may recommend a hysterectomy or a myomectomy. During a myomectomy, fibroids are removed while leaving the uterus in place.
If your doctor has recommended a myomectomy, you may be a candidate for a robotic myomectomy with the da Vinci® system.
A myomectomy is a highly complex procedure. Robotic surgery offers the surgeon exceptional precision and control, resulting in better outcomes and better patient experiences. Benefits of a robotic myomectomy include:
- opportunity for future pregnancy
- a shorter hospital stay
- less pain and less blood loss
- fewer complications
- a faster return to normal activity
